Probably no other academic subject lends itself to hands-on learning like science does. For many kinds of students, there is more to be gained by doing science, than merely just reading or hearing about it.
On the other hand, today’s families will also find outstanding science videos, web sites and computer programs that can simulate hands-on activities, even when a lab or expensive supplies are not available. In fact, some curriculum products focus primarily on experiments that can be performed using only common household ingredients.
With science products, there is truly something for every kind of learner, using any kind of homeschooling method, to fit any budget at all. Although this isn’t an exhaustive list, here are some of the most popular science curriculum resources used by families across the country:
Real Science 4 Kids (also called “RS4K”)
Lyrical Learning (science set to music)
Backyard Scientist series (available at Amazon and other bookstores)
Additional science products, such as videos and web sites, will appear in a separate post.

Particularly with science books, you’ll want to check if the product matches your religious or secular world-view. Some take one approach or the other, while others are world-view neutral. Contact each vendor if you have questions about how certain topics are handled in any science textbook you choose.
