As I write this, our world is in a state of emergency. As fears of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) are spreading around the globe, many of us are ramping up for the stress and uncertainty of the coming weeks and months. From preparing our cupboards to making alternative work/school arrangements, much of the world’s population is focusing on health, and how they or their loved ones might be affected by this rapidly spreading virus.
Events like these are ripe for fear and anxiety. For those who lean toward these emotions, they’ve probably already begun to manifest. For those traditionally unaffected by stress, these emotions may feel new or unfamiliar.
As a public service, I am recommending the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT, also called tapping) for dealing with anxiety and fear at this time. EFT is clinically proven, with efficacy shown in hundreds of published scientific studies across a broad range of physiological and psychological issues, including depression, weight loss, metabolic conditions, autoimmune conditions, post traumatic stresses and — yes – fear and anxiety.
So impressive are EFT research results, that tapping is being used all around the world by people from all walks of life, young and old, trained and untrained. As an EFT practitioner myself, I am seeing EFT performed at community meetings, in sports arenas, on television, in living rooms, in school buildings, in psychologists’ and medical doctors’ offices, and anywhere one can possible imagine. I am so impressed with the results, that I lead my coaching clients through EFT practices whenever I possibly can.
I am 100% sold.
Please understand that EFT is not a solution to the spreading virus itself, but a way to temper your reaction to knowing about it. By learning to calm your body and ease your stress around the fear, EFT can help your body move from the “fight or flight” mode to a more relaxed state. You’ll feel better. As a bonus, while I cannot claim curing or healing, science tells us that a body under stress will often have decreased immunity. So, you be the judge as to whether remaining more relaxed is worth it.
Should this concept seem unbelievable to you, or just plain wacky, please look to the research. As an example of EFT success, in a recent study (2019) involving 200+ subjects, people reported a decrease in anxiety of 40%, depression improved 35%, blood pressure and heart rate were reduced, and other positive effects were reported. These statistics are not uncommon and have been reported in dozens of studies at this time. I can corroborate this information through anecdotal evidence – including myself and those I work with – when using EFT for all kinds of issues.
It really works.
As a researcher and an academic, I am quite skeptical of holistic and alternative methods when I first hear of them. For me to recommend something as simple and elegant as tapping, please know that I have spent hundreds of hours in research and training, and I don’t make this recommendation lightly. I have personally used tapping for many years and have experienced much healing and symptom reduction after a short period of time. I observe an immediate change in those I teach EFT to, and can personally attest to how quickly it seems to impact people who try it.
Should you be unable to work with an EFT practitioner, please know you can use it safely and effectively ALL BY YOURSELF. That’s right — you don’t need to pay someone to guide you through an EFT (or tapping) session.
However, because results are usually amplified with the help someone more experienced, if you decide to work with a qualified tapping practitioner, you may wish to consider doing that, too. There are additional ways that experienced practitioners can get at troubling or hidden issues and questions, so it can be helpful to engage the help of someone familiar with additional ways to magnify its effectiveness.
